Do you know how hard it is to have a remotely good website/blog name, and find it available and have it mean anything?

Clearly I struggled a little, but there was a bolt of clarity just as I was about to give up and the bluefacedpixie was born. bluefaced refers to my Braveheart (desktop) origins, as does the mischevious reference to pixie (although I’m really a Pictish pixie as per Terry Pratchett). I clearly like too many links in my blog posts.

The top three also-rans for blogname were The Happy Scot, The Grumpy Scot and Baldrick’s Trousers. The last is still my personal favourite in some ways, if a little UK-obscure. It is a quote from the third season of Black Adder in the episode Nob and Nobility and in reference to Baldrick’s trousers:

Edmund: Thank you. [to Prince] You see, the ancient Greeks, Sir, wrote in legend of a terrible container in which all the evils of the world were trapped. How prophetic they were. All they got wrong was the name. They called it “Pandora’s Box,” when, of course, they meant “Baldrick’s Trousers.”

Most other names were either not available, didn’t have a ring to it, or were vetoed by Danika.
