Monorail crash

After multiple yes votes the Seattle monorail finally was voted no in the election this month. And yesterday night (Saturday) the existing 1-mile toy monorail from the Seattle Centre to downtown managed to engineer a crash (Seattle Times).

Perhaps the time has not yet come. Why is public transport so difficult?
