Trail Etiquette

So the downside of Mt. Si was the Goretex-ed, ski-pole-carrying a-hole’s who tramped down the hill without a civil word or an attempt to give way to the people slogging up. It seems that the amount of technical crap you wear is inversely proportional to your ability to know trail etiquette.
Sometimes I’d just like to be somewhere where the average person is nice and polite. Like Canada maybe?
