Running Muscles

Until today there has been 27 straight days of rain in Seattle. If we get more than 33 then we beat the record set in 1950. However today seemed to be dry – there was the light grey shine of dry concrete and some blue sky peaking out from the clouds.

I took the opportunity to run from the house in the afternoon around the “Fiore loop”. This is a c. 5 mile run from our house that heads to the bay, along the marina, up an evil hill and set of steps to the Cafe Fiore and then wends it way back to the house. My goal one day is to run this in less than 40 minutes. Last year I got very close, and Danika may even have accomplished this, but as she turned into a running rocket I’m not surprised. Today was not that day for me.

It’s amazing how after a few weeks of slow time at holidays followed by changing to another sport (snowboarding) muscles can just decide they don’t remember how to work. Even though I still feel relatively fit, and haven’t been doing too badly biking to work, and not hurting too much from boarding, my legs felt like lead today, my heart was going to burst and my lungs were really, really small. But it was good to be out in daylight, in the dry, and there were many fellow residents walking dogs, running and generally standing in the way. I don’t feel too bad at all (now that I’ve stopped).
