Movie: Vendetta
V for Vendetta, 4/5.
Caught this movie during the week and really liked it. Natalie Portman is excellent, and “V” is suitably freaky with his mask. I read the novel a long time ago, so I didn’t really notice anything too jarring about the screenplay (I think it changed from tyranny vs. anarchy to tyranny vs. pseudo-democracy in it’s message) although the graphic novel writer (Allan Moore) withheld his name from the credits. But he does that will all his movies – just as well considering one of them was the awful League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 2/5.
So that I don’t spoil it – it’s a dark near-future story set in Britain. There is a tyranny of fear and one man stands against the system, inspired by Guy Fawkes and the 5th of November (with suitable license on historical accuracy). Much mumbo-jumbo, action and love-story commences with many corny psuedo-American liberal hyperbole, but the accents are pretty decent.
Watch, rent, maybe even buy it.
