As you may be able to tell, and I hinted earlier, I am attempting to return to the world of mountain biking this year.

The time commitment is not large, but it is significant. So far, I would have to say I have abandoned a potential marathon because biking pushed the training off the #1 priority slot (amongst other things).

I started the year riding Tiger in the snow, using Morgan’s borrowed bike, bu finally gave in with the ever-in-need-of-major-servicing-and-can’t-take-disc-brakes Trek Fuel that has served me well since Peru 2001 and bought a trendy new Specialized Stumpjumper. It’s great so far: it’s blue (my favourite colour), it’s a “trail bike” which suits the rides around here, and it’s just justified it’s existence with a trip to Whistler where all the new disc brakes etc worked well, and it’s fun. It isn’t a downhill bike, and Morgan and I still stood out as the only two bikes/bikers with clipless pedals and normal biking helmets, but we played it safe and the bike took it hard.

Hopefully the good start to the year will continue.
