Lessons from Tiger Mountain

A little ride at Tiger Mountain yesterday, and a few lessons and reminders for the mountain bikers out there:
- It is possible to ride without gloves when you forget them. But when it’s over 80° your hands will get slippy and you have to stay awake
- It’s nice to meet folks new to the area who are out riding
- A summer of not riding much or running or exercise in general, does not make climbing the fireroad one damn bit easier
- Fat Hand (Iverson for the folks who prefer the official name) is still the trail (even though Preston is also the Tiger trail) – more of a workout, more skills, less downhill mayhem, still kicks my ass
- I now realize I have this “over obstacles on the downhill with a turn” thing where I hold my wheel straight, overrun slightly, punch the front brake, flick and power through. This does not work well with my new disc brake bike with actual, real, stopping power. Quite exciting a few times when my front wheel stopped at the “punch the front brake” stage of the process
Ride on.
